Maybe some of you who sell on ebay can tell... My question is: why is that many of the feedback comments posted by sellers for their buyers are the same, verbatim, even though they are obviously totally different sellers. e.g.
"Great communication. A pleasure to do business with"
"Good buyer, prompt payment, valued customer, highly recommended."
"Thank you for an easy, pleasant transaction. Excellent buyer. A++++++."
"Hope to deal with you again. Thank you."
etc.....

Is that ebay provides the sellers with these ready-to-use comments?

They can't think of anything else to say so they just copy what they've seen done by others, is my guess. I mean, would you want to try to think up something new and concise for each transaction, especially if you sell a lot? I don't think so. The whole feedback system becomes just a PITA.

Since sellers can't leave anything BUT positive FB for buyers, even if they didn't pay, committed fraud or any other nefarious thing, what it says doesn't matter so why bother being individual or creative ?
If I remember correctly, it can even be set to automatic which is what busier sellers probably do.

Yes, they do. And all of those you noted are on the list of stored feedback comments that eBay provides.
Sellers can also store their own generic comments and have them left automatically as soon as the buyer pays (that's what I do).

As old_cold noted, sellers can no longer leave anything but a positive for buyers, so a buyer feedback is prettymuch useless except as an indicator of the quantity of purchases.

The ebay feedback system is so far gone from Pierre's original idea that it's barely recognizable anymore.

Thanks NMNan, interesting to be confirmed what I suspected. Indeed I also found some posted feedback immediately after payment.

Is there any incentive for a seller to post a feedback?

Good luck to your business

Incentive? Not anything tangible - other than providing good customer relations. Some buyers get fussy about their feedback and feel that it is required for a seller to leave feedback (it isn't - it's voluntary). If a seller does not give feedback right away, the buyer may feel like the seller is holding their feedback 'hostage' until they give pos feedback for the sale.

I don't play that game. As far as I'm concerned - they paid, so I give them their green button. Makes them happy right off the bat when they see their feedback number go up, and if they are a feedback-obsessor, they won't stress out about it.

And for me? It's done. I don't have to think about it any more, I can concentrate on completing the sale.

Thanks for the good luck wishes

Other than what's been said by NMNan, three's no other incentive to leave it but right now there is one I won't leave for a buyer who is also a seller, so knows better, that did not pay until after she had been given an 'unpaid item strike'.

I have suspicions as to why she bought and didn't pay (sells in the same category)and can only hope that, if this is a habit of hers, that the absence of FB compared to the number of buys might tell other sellers the she is a 'problem' and they can block her.
Wishful thinking? Probably, but we have no other way of knowing anymore.

I started doing this a few years ago, I leave the same phrase but in different languages. It's fun.

'Recommander, merci! Laissez les bon temps rouler! A+A+A+++++++'

Fast payer, great buyer.

It's my standard.

Also as a seller I never leave feedback first unless its a repeat buyer.
